Windshield wipers may be a thing of the past according to the British supercar company McLaren. They are doing away with windshield wipers completely and replacing them with a high-frequency electronic system that pumps sound waves through the windshield. This is the same exact technology used in modern day fighter jets. Not only does this high tech system deflect any water that comes in contact with the windshield almost instantly, but also any mud and even bugs. By removing the traditional wipers, the aerodynamics of a vehicle can be greatly improved and its weight reduced. As most of us are aware, coatings on the windshield just do not last. Products such as Rain-X may work temporarily, but after only 30 days (or sometimes less) of regular use, it must be reapplied. This is the first real solution to windshield wiper replacement ever, and a great idea at that. Sound too futuristic? Think again. McLaren’s 2015 models will all be windshield...Read More >
I never seem to get sunburned in the car although I can certainly feel the heat of the sun through the windows. Does car window glass block out the sun’s cancer-causing rays? Understanding your level of exposure to the sun’s rays when riding inside a vehicle means understanding a bit about UV radiation – and the types of glass used in automobile windows. Ultraviolet radiation is commonly divided into UVA, UVB and UVC. “They’re all just different wavelength bands of UV. The shortest waves being UVC, and UVA being the longest. UVC is the most damaging to organic tissue, but it’s also the one that is blocked mostly by the ozone layer and doesn’t get to us,” says Rob Vandal, vice-president of product engineering and development at Guardian Automotive. Guardian supplies OEM (original equipment) windshields to major auto makers, and its own brand for aftermarket distribution. UVB causes tanning and burning, and leads to photo-aging or skin damage. UVA also...Read More >

Are you as conscientious about your windshield wipers as you are about your car’s engine? Car safety is a critical concern for everyone. Worn wiper blades are dangerous. Because 90% of your driving decisions are based on a clear, unobstructed view of the road, it’s a critical safety concern that your car’s wipers provide you with the cleanest windshield possible. Ozone, airborne contaminants, oil, sunlight and dirt all act to weaken and reduce your wiper blades’ ability to keep your view unobstructed. And exposure to sunlight and ozone cause the wiper blades to age, even if they’re not used much. Weather also plays a critical role in your windshield wiper blades’ deterioration. Freezing temperatures make the rubber in your wiper blades hard and brittle, which increases their tendency to crack or tear. Hot weather warps the rubber and prevents the blade from wiping your windshield cleanly. Heavy use is hard on the wipers because dust, abrasives, road grime and bug...Read More >

It is not recommended that you ever drive your vehicle if there is a crack that is in your view while driving. Even if the damage is repairable (minor rock chip), if the damage is in the driver’s direct line of view, insurance companies require replacement. If the crack is on the passenger’s side of the windshield, we strongly recommend replacing the windshield as soon as possible due to the safety concerns including a proper deploy of the airbags and roof retention. If the crack is on the driver’s side of the windshield, you will need to determine whether or not the crack effects your driving negatively in any way (blind spots, catches your eye, annoying, etc). If it does, then I would recommend replacing it. Glass is unpredictable, and does not follow any set rules. One rock chip may not spread for 10 years, while another rock chip may spread across your windshield 30 minutes later. Don’t let this...Read More >
