The NordGlass Auto Glass Technician Olympics (AGTO) is an international competition that is based on the Auto Glass Replacement Safety Standard (AGRSS®). The competition was founded in 2005 by AGRR™ magazine. Competitors are allotted 75 minutes to complete a windshield installation in the first heats of the competitions. In the finals round, technicians are required to complete a remove and re-install of a glass part, which may or may not be a windshield. Contestants are judged on ten different sections, professionalism and credentials, technician comportment and vehicle inspection, proper product usage, proper equipment and tools usage, windshield removal, installation technique, post-installation and clean-up procedures, customer wrap-up, in-depth knowledge credit and correction of inappropriate conditions when necessary. The focus is on quality, and while there is a time given for each heat and final round, the points are based on the quality of the work. The competitors take the proctor/customer through an entire installation from the pre-inspection of the vehicle and introduction through proper cut-out removal of the old windshield, cleaning and priming of the new windshield, adhesive bead placement, mechanical checks and signing the finished work order. Recognition awards are also presented for innovative use of tools, or additional testing that take the installation to a higher level and raises the benchmark for our industry as a whole.
